Touring exhibition "Politics and Games"

The tour exhibition Politics and Games examines how computer games unfold their political potential. Using apparently politically ambitious computer games of the last twelve years, she examines the possibilities and limits of the genre to create a counterposition within the entertainment industry. Whether computer games are seen as a political issue, as an entertainment medium or - even - as art depends for the time being on the context. Each game is located in a society and thus thematizes it. A political relevance can thus be postulated for all computer games, even and especially if they seem to elude any political action (i.e. collectively binding decisions). For even in these games, the following applies: the players issue orders, but must themselves play according to the rules of the game in order to be able to play at all. At the other end of this spectrum are games that are deliberately used for purposes of political education or propaganda with an otherwise difficult target group in mind. Source: Goethe Institute
